Roger René Melanson, 81, passed away peacefully on December 13th, after a long period of living with Alzheimer’s Disease. Roger lived in Amherst, NH for 40 years before moving into Memory Care Assisted Living. Roger is predeceased by his wife, Helen T. Melanson, of 55 years. He is survived by his son Timothy, daughter Katherine Emerson, son-in-law Ryan, and two grandsons, William, and Benjamin Emerson. He is also survived by his four younger siblings, Leo Melanson, Carmen Dyer, Philip Melanson, and Jeanne Melanson of New Hampshire and Maine.
Roger was born and raised in Nashua, NH where he began his entrepreneurial journey at a very young age. His first job as a paperboy for the Nashua Telegraph included organizing his friends and brother Leo to deliver newspapers to over 180 clients by bike and foot, setting the stage for a lifelong pursuit of professional opportunity. After graduating from Nashua High School in 1960, he attended Merrimack College where he earned his degree in accounting and then an MBA from Northeastern University. Roger used his accounting background to leverage a career as an entrepreneur by opening his own accounting firm. The firm, valbear his reputation, continued to bare his last name, Melanson, until just recently even though he sold it over 30 years ago. His progressive nature led him to start an additional 3 companies, all with the intention of supporting small business owners and municipalities. Although Roger was an accountant by trade, his true love of entrepreneurship kept him always in search of his next venture in order to best provide for his family.
Roger was not easily taken from his work, but when he was, he enjoyed spending time with his family on their sailboat, playing tennis at Jasper Valley, learning the game of golf, reading the Sunday papers, driving with the top down, tending to his vegetable garden, and most of all…cooking. A true foodie, the art of shopping for and preparing meals for his family became his way of showing them how much he cared for them.
Services will be private, but friends and former colleagues of Roger’s are encouraged to send notes of remembrance of Roger to his children, Tim, and Kate, so that they may share the legacy that Roger leaves behind with his grandchildren.
